Subsequent to the devastating flood of 2013 the IDNR collaborated with the Illinois Emergency Management Office and Alexander County to offer buyouts to land/homeowners located within the flooded areas. The IDNR purchased several parcels of land adjacent to the Horseshoe Lake Conservation area with the intent of increasing the goose population at this site. Alexander County purchased the properties in March of 2015 with IDNR recorded as the owner. The IDNR issued payment to the County for this parcel on November 30, 2017.
