|The Illinois Tollway intends to enter into a maintenance agreement contract with Glory USA Inc. for ten (10) GFR-S90V model currency readers, ten (10) journal printers, and twenty-six (26) GFB-80-30 currency counters for a three-year initial term|
The proposed vendor, Glory USA Inc., was selected as a result of an IFB to purchase these currency counters not only because they were the lowest bidder, but because these machines had the ability to recognize the first type of bill it counts, the capability to detect counterfeit bills, and for their accuracy.
Since the GFR-S90V units have been in use for more than three (3) years (May 2007), Glory cannot put them under service contract without performing an inspection and bringing the units to “within specification” beforehand. Under normal circumstances, Glory would perform the necessary remedial service, providing parts and labor on a “time and materials” basis, along with travel charges.
There is a second issue at this time that has to do with currency reading devices, and that is the “Nexgen $100” note that will be issued in early 2011. All currency readers will need to have their software upgraded in order to read the new $100 note when it is released. Glory has proposed a special program for the Illinois Tollway that will extend the useful life of the GFR-S90V units and provide a significant cost savings.
